_The idea for this company came to me when my father was in the hospital last year in Minnesota and I could only send him flowers (I live in New York). I was frustrated and ended up sending him nothing, when I really wanted to send him magazines and a Sudoku book while he was bored in the hospital.

Goodie Mags is based on the idea that you want to show someone you care when they’re in the hospital and I absolutely didn’t want you to be limited to sending flowers. There weren’t any alternatives to sending flowers, so I created Goodie Mags.

I also wanted to set-up partnerships with local organizations in places that the business is connected to. So far, we’ve announced a partnership in New York City (where we are located), Grand Rapids, Michigan (where one of the founders is from) and now we’re happy to announce a partnership in the Twin Cities!

_A few weeks ago, I volunteered at one of the public hospitals in New York helping kids make exploding, awesome volcanoes. The kids ranged in age from 2nd graders to 5th graders. There are older kids too but they do different activities with volunteers. The kids are in the hospital for varying lengths of time and for varying reasons but they are all excited to see people who care. I couldn’t help but think that when I left that there was something that Goodie Mags could do to support the children who are at the hospital, especially for the kids who are there for an extended period of time.
